TABLE TENNIS CLUB

Overview of the club

The concept of table tennis

- Table tennis is a sport played by 2 parties; 1 or 2 people on one side hit a ball on the ball table back and forth with 1 or 2 people on the other side, each using a racket, almost like playing tennis. The rules of table tennis are different from tennis, but the basic concepts are the same. Table tennis is an Olympic sport. Spinning style, speed and playing tactics are important factors when playing table tennis. The speed of the ball can vary, from going slow but spinning a lot to very fast sometimes more than 110 km/h.

- Table tennis requires a room large enough for players to move around comfortably. In international competitions, the World Table Tennis Federation requires an area not less than 14 m (46 ft) long, 7 m (23 ft) wide and 5 m (16 ft) high. The four corners may be covered by a surface not more than 1.5 m (5 ft) long.

- The racquet is typically about 10 in, with a hitting surface of approximately 15.8 cm × 15.8 cm (6 in × 6 in), although the rules of the game do not limit size or shape. Modern racquets often have a thin layer of rubber covering the surface of the racquet. This rubber layer can have spots and these spots can be on the front or back, making that thin layer become a thin sucker between the middle piece of wood and the rubber on the surface.

The benefits and effects of table tennis

- This is great aerobic and cardiovascular exercise: the heart is being trained to pump at a higher rate, it becomes more efficient at providing a well-circulated blood supply.

- When playing ball, players have to coordinate many hand, eye and foot parts to move and hit back and forth with each other. When played at a fast pace it benefits the development of different muscle groups - Playing this game involves mind and body coordination. When playing table tennis, it is not only the hands, feet and body that work, but it stimulates alertness, concentration and tactical strategy to win.
